Just been told the local Town Council have unanimously declared that they wish Llanfairfechan Library to remain open. Seems the running costs are very low indeed and the use is very high. As soon as I get the exact figures I'll post them. Thanks to everyone who turned up, Gutto Bebb seemed very sympathetic when we spoke to him on his arrival.

It's the County Council's decision unfortunately and I hope they will take the local feelings into consideration. The more people who shout about it the more they'll listen. I emailed Bill roberts who has the figures and if he sends me the figures I'll post them straight away. There should be an article in the NWWN next week about last nights meeting.

Principal Overview and Scrutiny Committee will discuss the library situation.
Monday, 10th January, 2011 10.30 am
at Bodlondeb, Conwy. From what I can gather because Conwy Council has been told by the Welsh Assembly their library service isn't up to standard, their plan is to close the smaller libraries and build a big library in Llandudno Junction near Tesco. The prime users of the local library are the type of people who can't afford or aren't able to travel to the Junction, it would mean that the big libraries will be within spitting distance of each other and God help the rest of us. If you feel strongly about this please turn up for the meeting on Monday. Why don't they build a big library in Llanfairfechan, create a vistor centre and gallery to promote the area?. We have so much beautiful countryside that is envied worldwide and all for free and great photographers and artists here to capture it.

The capital investment needed to build a big library in Llanfairfechan (or anywhere ese, including Llandudno Junction) is probably out of the question, especially in today's economically straitened times.

However, I have always thought that the old health centre on Village Road, which seems to be doing not very much at all, would make an excellent library, with considerably more space and potential for community use, and attached car parking.

I understand that it is the property of the Health Trust, but in the event of them having no plans for it, surely some transfer / sale could be negotiated.

Annual cost of running Llanfairfechan Library is well under 9,000 a year. 8,487 to be exact, % of people who use Library in Llanfairfechan is nearly double that of Llandudno Junction and Conwy, where do they plan to upgrade/build a new library, in the Junction. A cough and a spit away from Llandudno which has the biggest modern Library. Is use of Llanfairfechan Library dropping? No. Conwy and the Junction, like a stone.
