Move to the beat at music charity venue
MASE members hold tea dance event for all ages By Mari Jones THE music of Vera Lynn, Cole Porter and Glenn Miller has been heard emanating from the community centre at Llanfairfechan. Tea dances organised by music charity MASE have been going down a treat with the evergreen population of the town. The idea for the dances was dreamed up by Erika Woods, MASE's founder member, although the charity is more well known for its work with young people. Emma Louise from MASE said: "We want to do something in all quarry villages as we are now based in Penmaenmawr. "The community hall in Llanfairfechan is a lovely space and has a great atmosphere perfect fora tea dance! We had a varied selection of music, from Cole Porter and Vera Lynn to rock 'n' roll. We hosted around 20 people for the first dance and it was the first of a series of dances we're planning to hold at the venue. "I think it would be safe to say everyone had a great time, there was a live accompanist and a lady from Llanfairfechan led a sing-song along with myself. "We had many styles of dance, from waltzes and quick steps to jive. It's good to organise something like this just for the social aspect and to show people that MASE is for everybody, not just young people." The next tea dance is on June 13 from 2pm-4pm at Llanfairfechan community centre. Entry is £3 which includes light refreshments. The venue has access for wheelchair users and all are welcome.
