New Mayor Takes Up Office

A FORMER head of nursing is the new mayor of Llanfairfechan.

Dorothy Keddie spent her working life in the health service after leaving school at 17 and becoming a cadet nurse in her home town of Bangor.

Soon after starting work, Dorothy met and married her husband of 39 years, Peter, and moved to Llanfairfechan where they settled and had two children, Fiona and Jamie, and now has three grandchildren.

Having retired from her job as a health director four years ago, Dorothy, 59, decided she wanted to become involved in the community. "I thought I should do something with myself after retiring," she said. "I love the village and it is great place to be, there was a place on the council so I went for it and got on.

"I am not political, I think the town council should be there for the good of the town and the people here, not for political reasons."

A two-time lady-captain of Llanfairfechan Golf Club With a handicap of 21, Dorothy is looking forward to representing the town.
