Gary Races To Birthday Win

Llanfairfechan runner leads home over 300 finishers

LLANFAIRFECHAN runner Gary Rees Williams put in a strong finish to win the annual Twin Piers race from Llandudno to Colwyn Bay last Staurday - just two days after his 40th birthday.

He beat off the challenge of Abergele's Darren Blazier, the early race leader, in the final yards to win by seven seconds ahead of more than 300 finishers.

Helen Davies from Wrexham was a comfortable winner of the ladies' title, with Rhian Davies from Rhos on Sea third.

"Entries were up on last year and we've had good feedback from the runners who all enjoyed an excellent day - and that augers well for next year," said Russ Godwin of Colwyn Bay Athletics Club, who organise the event.
