A Festival of Local History In North Wales, planned by The Federation of History Societies in the North Wales area, is currently taking place in Llanfairfechan, Conwy. Running from Monday 16th. August to Saturday 4th. September 2004 inclusive, the aim of the event is to bring together as many voluntary societies and professional groups in North Wales as possible, under the heading of History in North Wales.
The three-week Festival, consisting of an exhibition and many varied events will give a chance for anyone with an interest in North Wales history to learn about the work of local Historical Societies, and to find out about the facilities that are available at places such as the National Library of Wales, CADW, and amny others. The Welsh Assembly Government is supporting the event by contributing funds to the National Institutions, to ensure that some of their treasures are seen in the smaller communities in Wales.
Over 170 organisations are taking part, including organisations of national significance, and Historical groups from all over North Wales, who are advertising the event within their own areas by spreading the word amongst their own members and by putting up posters and timetables in suitable locations within their locality. To back up this "on-the-ground" advertising, the
in Bangor are advertising the event on their web site. The local and regional newspapers have been provided with the names of all groups involved, thus providing promotion for each society, and will continue to be informed as the event progresses.
